Today, I want to talk about how you can jumpstart your productivity in the morning ☀️☕️🙌🏻✔️
Because I know so. many. female entrepreneurs who have a hard time getting going in the morning—myself included sometimes.
It’s true. Even though I ditched my night owl ways years ago, I still sometimes have a hard time getting going in the morning. Because sometimes morning just comes too soon, amiright?! 😴

HOW TO JUMPSTART YOUR PRODUCTIVITY IN THE MORNING
They say how we start our morning influences our entire day. And after realizing some of the things I was doing was actually KILLING my productivity, I knew I had to share what I stopped doing and started doing instead. Because the way we start our day TOTALLY affects what we’re able to get done throughout it.

1 | DON’T HIT SNOOZE
#nobutreally, it’s the WORST thing you can do in the morning!! I know it’s tempting some days (er… most days), but going back to sleep after you’ve been awake can RESTART your sleep cycle and make you feel groggy FOR HOURS. #beentheredonethat
Fast Fix #1: If you use your phone as an alarm clock, put it on the other side of the room so you’re forced to get out of bed to turn it off when it goes off. (Same goes for an actual alarm clock.) Resist the urge to crawl back into bed and get in the shower instead!!
Fast Fix #2: Try the “inverted snooze”!! When your alarm goes off, you can go ahead and hit snooze, but instead of closing your eyes, use those 9, 18, or 27 minutes (if you’re a multiple snooze button offender) to do whatever you want before getting ready for the day. Think of all the possibilities…
2 | DON’T CHECK EMAIL OR SOCIAL MEDIA
But, whatever you do, don’t turn off your alarm and immediately open up email or social media. Checking your email first thing in the morning like that can cause more stress and overwhelm than you really want at the start of your day. And we all know how easy it is to get sucked into the social media black hole… 5 minutes can easily turn into 50, ya know!!
Fast Fix #1: I know lying in bed scrolling through social media is something of a morning ritual for many (myself included), but it’s a huge time suck in the morning. Schedule time into your day to check and return email + check and engage on social media so you know you’ll still have time to do those things, but in a more productive manner.
Fast Fix #2: Turn off notifications. Without notifications, the temptation to check #allthethings will be gone. Take it one step further by logging out of social media and taking work email off your phone.
3 | GET MOVING
Getting moving first thing is one of the best ways to jumpstart your productivity in the morning. Morning workouts get your blood pumping and help you power through the day. Plus, getting your sweat sesh over with in the morning means you’re less likely to talk yourself out of it later in the day. But don’t think getting moving means a heavy-duty workout every single day. Going for a walk, doing stairs, even running in place or doing jumping jacks are great ways to get moving in the morning.
Fast Fix #1: Make your bed. Yes, it sounds simple, and yes, I sound like your mother, but making your bed in the morning does two things. It means you’ve already accomplished something and it gets you moving. My favorite thing to do is turn on a good, fast tune, make my bed, and dance around a bit!!
4 | GET READY FOR THE DAY
This is something I see A LOT of female entrepreneurs skip. They get up and either haul their laptop into bed with them or sit right down at their desk and get to work. Before they know it, it’s 2:30 in the afternoon and they haven’t even showered yet!! It’s like they think taking time to get ready for the day means taking time away from getting things done. But getting ready doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult. In fact, I find that getting up, getting showered, getting dressed, doing my hair, and throwing on a little makeup actually boosts my productivity… by a lot!!
Fast Fix #1: Get up and get right in the shower!! Don’t haul your laptop into bed, don’t sit down at your desk, don’t wait until later. Get that shower done and out of the way first thing so you’re not saying “smell you later” when it hits 4 o’clock.
Fast Fix #2: Build a wardrobe that lets you get dressed with absolute ease and pick your outfit the night before to save yourself a few minutes in the morning. My closet is mostly filled with t-shirts and jeans, which virtually requires no thought at all either in the evening or the morning.Have a hard time getting going in the morning? 5 | CROSS ONE THING OFF YOUR TO-DO LIST BEFORE…
This heading was originally going to say BEFORE YOU DRINK YOUR COFFEE, but I thought you might all come after me with pitchforks for that. And I get it!! I can’t always get my brain in gear before my morning cup of productivity juice either. Instead, I want you to get one of your top 3 tasks of the day DONE before you do any kind of ongoing or everyday tasks like email or social media.
Fast Fix #1: Have a time block of at least 60 minutes each morning to work on your most important task. Do it first thing and anything else you do that day will be a bonus!!
