Yes, you CAN take a vacation.
Not that you need my permission.
But knowing that you CAN take a vacation WITHOUT your business falling to the wayside or falling apart is important knowledge to have in your back pocket. Especially when you do decide it’s time for a vacation.
And you should!! Take a vacation, I mean.
Because a vacation is as vitally important and necessary to a creative female entrepreneur as it is for someone working 9-to-5 for someone else.
And that’s the entire point of today’s post 👉🏻 to prove to you that taking a vacation as a creative female entrepreneur is not only a NEED TO but a MUST DO!!
WHY EVEN CREATIVES NEED TO TAKE A VACATION
There are a lot of quotes out there that make it sound like you’ll never need to take a vacation if you find a job you love…
I vehemently disagree with every single one of them.
Because everyone (and I mean, everyone) needs (and deserves) to step away, take time off, recharge their business batteries, and give the creative side of their brain a break.
If you need even more convincing, here are a multitude of reasons why I believe vacations are not only good for you but good for your business, too!!Taking a vacation as a creative female entrepreneur is not only a NEED TO but a MUST DO. Click To Tweet
WHY TAKING A VACATION IS GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS
The creative industry loves to glorify busy. And honestly, every time I see someone post something along those lines, I want to throw my phone at them. Because wearing a busy badge doesn’t necessarily mean they’re doing well. In fact, more often than not, you see those same people sharing stories of sickness, overwhelm, and burnout later on down the road. (I have literally seen this so. many. times. 🙈 and it breaks my heart every time.)
Working around the clock, never taking a break, and doing all the things experts say you “should” do may increase some of your numbers… but at what cost?
I’m not saying you shouldn’t hustle or work hard. But a girl has to know when to hustle and when to take a break. (And before you even think it, doing so is not a sign of weakness. It’s actually a sign of strength.)
As counterproductive as it may seem, taking a break (and spending time AWAY from your business) is just as important—if not more important—than spending time working ON or IN your business. Which is why you’ll often hear me say: sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax!!
Because devoting every single second of your life to a job (even if it’s a job you love) will take its toll on you (and your business) eventually.
There is nothing in nature that blooms all year long, so what on earth gave you the idea that you could?! Stop putting these crazy all work and no play expectations on yourself. Because all work and no play only leads to a burnt out business owner.
You chose this business over a corporate gig for a reason. (And it was NOT to work 24/7/365.)
If you’re sitting there thinking, “But I can’t afford to take time off…”
I say, “Sister, you can’t afford NOT to take time off!!”
You know how your car won’t run if there’s no gas? Or your laptop won’t work if there’s no battery? The same can be said for you and your business. You can’t run a successful business (and have a life you love) if you’re running on all things empty!!
You are a human, not a robot. You cannot do all the things, all the time. You can not work hard and hustle 24/7/365 without falling flat on your face (or your butt) at some point.
In order for your business to grow and flourish, you have to take care of yourself FIRST. In fact, how well you take care of your business is a direct result of how well you take care of yourself.
When you’re thriving, your business thrives, too.
So take some time to recharge and come back a happier and healthier you for your sake, for your business, and for those around you.All work and no play makes for a… burnt out business owner!! Check out why even creatives need to take a vacation 👉🏻 Click To Tweet
I’ve still got a couple of days left of vacation and I’m already feeling excited to get back to work!! But it’s because I took intentional time off to rest. Did I check email a few times? Yes. Did I post on Instagram? Yes. Did I write this blog post? Yes. But I only opened my laptop a grand total of 7 times and only for an hour or two at a time. But the rest of the time… girlfriend, I was on island time!! 😎
It’s up to us to draw a line in the proverbial sand and stand up for ourselves and our businesses. You work your cute little boss lady butt off most of the time. Now it’s time to schedule time on your calendar to REST. (In fact, scheduling it is half the fun!! Then you have something to look forward to!!)
I’ve already got next year’s vacation on the calendar. How about you?!
